Instructions on how to change brakes, fully illustrated can be found here:

Warning:

1. I would definitely recommend jack stands under a car, never do a brake job with just the car jack.

2. Always use a fixed size wrench, never use a cresent wrench as illustrated by Rob

3. Otherwise his instructions are pretty well written and can be found here.

Oh and he's replacing brake pads, not shoes as he has incorrectly called them from time to time.

Also it is recommended to get the rotor's thickness measured (to ensure they are not too thin) and resurfaced for best braking. How to change my brake pads a elantra hyunday 2003?
If you purchase the original spare pads kit box (- I assume you are asking about the front Disks), Inside the box package you will find a detailed schematic of how to do the work,

This is how i did it myself. It is so easy .

Remove hydraulic fluid reservoir cap to avoid compressed spill outs.

Remove tire and turn the steering wheel as to get access to the brake calipers.

Using a flat ended screw driver apply pressure to the inner side of the caliper between the piston and the disk / support.

After that the caliper can be slided up like a door hinge ( the hinge is the upper portion of the calipers) , just by removing the lower screw.

Remove the anti rattle thin metal (spring acting) pieces , and remove the pads accordingly.

NOTE:

1.Do one wheel at a time. Thus you will have an assembled caliper for reference of how to reinstall.

2. info's given are based on my Elantra 2.0 GLS ( model 2002 )

3. HINT : Do NOT use soft pads as to avoid disk wear. Use original pads or you will have very bad brakes .
